Kayak Tour of Mauritius 2008
In collaboration with Naiade Events

8th - 13th December 2008

5 days, 120 kms and 25 hours of paddling

Day 1

Our first day was the toughest with 20 kms of front wind. Expected time of arrival was 4 pm. We finished at 6: 30 pm at Le tropical in Trou d`Eau Douce
ith blisters, sore arms and burnt faces.

30 kms in total! We were happy to finish and spent a a good night`s sleep at the Tropical Hotel.

Day 2

After a full-on breakfast everyone was ready for action especially that the wind had died and the sea had calmed.
A stop off at Bernache island and a surprise lunch at the Legends hotel under the Banyan tree with a 3 course meal made it very hard for all to get up and paddle again.

We eventually made Grand Bay round 5 pm after some great paddling passed Bain Boeuf and Peyreybere crossing over shallow reefs with stunning colours.

Day 3

Today the good weather was still present and our 24 kms paddle was spectacular with a highlight watching 2 rays mating on the reefs in Trou aux Biches.

We had our first incident when I was busy trying to take a picture of David  surfing down a wave on the reefs as he came crashing into me toppling us both over. Luckily no damages done apart from cereal bars, flippers, pareo`s etc. floating around everywhere!

Paddling outside the reef from then on was great. The swells were with us making it fun to ride them. The entrance into the Port is always special paddling along side huge ships with the city in the backdrop and a sense of acheivement.

Tomorrow is a well deserved rest day. We`ll all meet again in Flic en Flac at 9 am near Villas Caroline on Friday for a 25 kms paddle to Le Morne.

Day 4

The sea was still as oil and once we packed our kayaks with the usual gear - cameras, masks, flippers, drinking water, energy bars etc.. we were off through the pass of Flic en Flac and paddling just outside the reef towards Black River.
Our first stop was at la Preneuse after 8 kilometers where Elie prepared us some goodies to eat and joined us after that until ilot Benitier sand island.

Only that the wind had now picked up making the crossing quite hard. So arriving at the island everyone was nice and hungry especially that it was passed 3 o clock.

Kissen prepared us a very tasty barbeque fish that we all gulped down greedily and soon after paddled on towards le Morne and its majestic mountain in the backdrop.

We landed near the Pavillon hotel round 5 pm where we then set up our tents and had dinner at the Pavillon hotel.

Day 5

Those who woke up early could watch the amazing moon set. After a full-on breakfast again organised by Naiade Resorts we set out for the last leg of 15 kilometers hoping the wind wouldn't show up.

The paddle was wonderful with the mountain still present and the waters calm and shallow. The crossing of Baie du Cap is always great and it feels as if your crossing round Cape Point or the Cape Horn! Well almost.

Just before that;the kayak surf session was on again on the waves of the reef of La Prairie. Next year we`ll have to add a contest for the best surfer. This year the best stunt would go to Benoit and his ejection stunt.

We all arrived at the Tamassa hotel with a great welcoming committee marking the end of the 2008 Yemaya Adventures kayak tour and 120 kms behind us!

Lunch again was a blast!

A quick transfer after to the very comfortable hotel of Les Pavillons for our last night being spoilt rotten and eating enough to be able to last another round the island trip!!!

Yannick ended the show with an unforgettable performance of what singing is all about.
Thanks man!
